All Time Is Now

Diagram showing a psychological plane with vertical and horizontal axes representing time. Memories (past) and projections (future) are mapped with emotional tones—blue for painful, pink for pleasurable—illustrating how thought moves through emotionally charged time.

This sketch emerged from a moment of insight: a visual map of how emotionally charged memories and projections shape our inner experience. Both axes represent time - not as measured by a clock, but as felt in the body and mind.

Jiddu Krishnamurti’s phrase -“All time is now” -has resonated within me for over a decade.

Yesterday, while swimming in the sea, the meaning of those words seemed to clarify itself.

What I saw -or rather, what I felt -appeared as a kind of psychological-experiential plane, framed entirely by time: the past (memories) and the future (projections).

In this diagram, I’ve tried to sketch that moment of insight.

Each axis of the diagram represents time -both the horizontal and vertical.
The unit of time is fluid: it could be seconds, hours, days, weeks, months, or years.
What matters isn’t the scale, but the experience carried within each moment.

We usually understand thought as movement: backward into memory, or forward into projection -what we generally call “thinking.”

But there’s an important experiential difference:

There is a felt distinction between negative memories or projections (painful), and positive ones (pleasurable).

That’s why this diagram is emotionally color-coded:

  • Positive emotions, whether in memory or projection, are marked with a ‘+’ and colored pink.
  • Negative emotions are marked with a ‘–’ and colored blue.

The vertical axis of the diagram expresses memories -the past -mapped by their emotional tone: pleasurable or painful.
The horizontal axis designates projections -oriented toward the future -and likewise varies in emotional quality.

Aren’t the drive of desire and the paralysis of fear simply two sides of the same mirror?

Both are reflections of positive or negative memories and projections.

Our bodies are nature, and as such, they express the same astonishing delicacy and perfection found throughout the natural world.
Thoughts are not just visual impressions, like photos taken by a machine.
Memories are emotional imprints -the mind replays not only images, but the feeling originally stored with them.

Projections function the same way.
They are also born from the past, because to imagine something -even a future -we must first be able to name it, recognize it, and frame it.
And to do that, we must already know it.

But the past and the future only exist if there is an entity alive now, in the state of thinking.

Its heart beating now.
Its lungs breathing now.
Its senses perceiving only now.

This is the paradox:

We mostly live in a psychological field constructed from time, yet the only biological fact is the present moment —

NOW.
