Who Witnesses Thought?

Illustration of a sun–moon face symbolising consciousness, with labels “the thinker” and “thought,” accompanied by the question “Who is the observer, the listener, the witness of thought?” exploring whether the observer is not a sense organ but the totality of memory and knowledge. Conceptual artwork on human consciousness and attentive medicine by Dr Fatou Mbow.

What sees thought is not the eye.

What hears thought is not the ear.

So what is the observer, the listener, the witness of thought?
It seems to be the totality of memory –
the whole of knowledge –
from which each thought believes it is separate.
